The demands from the NHLPA are that the league play at least 47 games in the regular season, with two out of every three teams making the playoffs.
The NHL has since issued a statement and backed off of a number of league proposals, including 48 games. Instead, they said that they are open to a 48-50 game schedule.
Friedman believes that the NHLPA is willing to back down a bit in the talks.
According to Friedman, the NHLPA is now willing to back off the number of teams that would make the playoffs from 82 to 80.
